CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF Aueust 20, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Ron Kenny — Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services
SUBJECT: Request for Increased Appropriation of Funds for Expanded
Youth Sports Program
DATE: August 6, 2002
Item #6
BACKGROUND:
The Parks, Recreation & Family Services Department wishes to expand its Youth Sports Program.
Currently, Youth Basketball is the only program offered by the Department. The Recreation
Division wishes to add Youth Flag Football as a new program for the Fall of 2002.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Youth Flag Football has become a very successful program in recreation departments throughout
the area, and there appears to be a demand for expanded youth sports programming in Colton. This
program will offer Colton's youth an opportunity to participate in a recreational program,
emphasizing fun and participation, while leaming the fundamentals of football. The Department
expects to serve approximately 200 youth with this program.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no net financial impact to the City for this allocation. Revenue account number 100-6750
would increase by $9000, and expenditure accounts, 100-6200-6204-2301 and 100-6200-6204-
2350, would increase by $5000 and $4000, respectively.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
Staff recommends that the above-mentioned accounts be increased in order to accommodate
expansion of the youth sports program for the City of Colton.
PREPARED BY:
Bill Smith, Recreation Services Manager
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: Finance Director:
City Manager: %—y/ OTHER:
