CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For the City Council Meeting of August 20, 2002 Item #12 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Dilu DeAlwis, Finance Director SUBJECT: Award of Bid for Decorative Street Lighting Hardware for the Mt. Vernon Corridor Project Area to Wesco Distribution Inc., in the Amount of $278,318.25 DATE: July 31, 2002 BACKGROUND On June 30, 1987, the Colton City Council established the Mt. Vernon Corridor Redevelopment Project Area with the adoption of Ordinance 0-8-87. In 1999, the Redevelopment Agency issued tax allocation bonds to fund certain public improvements within the project area. The City Council adopted Resolution R-26-00 on April 4, 2000, which made certain findings of benefit and authorized the Agency to use the bond proceeds for a list of improvements recommended for funding by the Mt. Vernon Citizens Advisory Committee. On June 4, 2002, the City entered into a Construction Management Agreement (CMA) with the Agency to construct the Mt. Vernon Corridor public improvements. DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS On July 17, 2002, the Purchasing Division posted a Notice Inviting Bids for the purchase of eighty-two (82) sets of decorative street lighting hardware for the Mt. Vernon Corridor Project. Bid packages were mailed to four prospective bidders. Bid opening was held at the City of Colton Corporate Yard at 2:30 P.M. on July 31, 2002. One bid was received from Wesco Distribution Inc., for a total amount of $278,318.25. FINANCIAL IMPACT The source of funds for the improvements come from the Redevelopment Agency's Mount Vernon Corridor 1999 Tax Allocation Bonds and are on deposit with the Fiscal Agent for the Construction Management Agreement ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT The Mt. Vernon Project Area will benefit from improved street lighting. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council make bid award for the decorative street lighting to Wesco Distribution Inc. in the Amount of $278,318.25.
