CITY OF COLTON
They are the future of our communities. CITY MANAGER
Accordingly, we are inviting the youth leaders in our cities to participate in this year's
Annual Conference, October 2-5, in Long Beach.
At the conference we plan several sessions for the young people so they can begin to
experience and appreciate the issues with which you, as city officials, must deal.
Benefits
0 It's a great opportunity for you to engage the leaders of tomorrow and help them
form a favorable impression of local government and their community.
It will give them the chance to better understand the tough choices you face and
the dilemmas that are a part of public office.
It will give them a unique opportunity to enter the world of civic leadership and
acquire an appreciation of civic affairs that will stay with them for the rest of their
lives.
What You Can Do
Select and invite several young people of high school age* to attend all or part of
the League's Annual Conference. The enclosed guidelines offer suggestions how
you might do this for maximum benefit to your city and to the young people who
attend.
If you've not already arranged for youth to attend, act now to coordinate with
schools for youth participation. The Conference will be about a month after most
schools start so your may need to act quickly when school opens.
0 Use this opportunity to invite your local civics teachers to join their students at the
Conference. It's a great way to help them better understand their local
government.
OVER . . .
Headquarters
Southern California Office
1400 K Street
602 East Huntington Dr., Suite C
Sacramento, CA 95814
Monrovia, CA 91016
916.658.8200
626.305L315
FAX 916,658.8240
FAX 626.305.1345
