Item #3
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF February 19, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: R. Heusterberg, Chief of Polis
SUBJECT: Approval of a Taxi Service Operator Permit for AAA Inland Empire
Cab Service, pursuant to the Rules and Regulations of previously
adopted Resolution adopting rules and regulations.
DATE: February 12, 2002
BACKGROUND:
Colton Municipal Code Chapter 5.48 sets forth the requirements for obtaining a permit to
operate a taxi service within the City of Colton. Currently there are no operators approved
to pick up fares within the City limits. The current applicant has determined through a
market study that a need exists within the City of Colton for their service, and is
requesting approval to begin operations.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
AAA Inland Empire Cab Service has requested the approval of their application to provide
taxi service in the City of Colton. This company is currently permitted to provide service in
numerous surrounding communities, and believes that a market exists within the City of
Colton. In reviewing the application, the Police Department has determined that AAA
Inland Empire Cab Company meets the requirements of the Colton Municipal Code
relating to Taxi Service Operators. Upon approval of their Operator Permit, each of the
company's drivers will be required to obtain a separate Driver's Permit prior to being
permitted to operate within the City of Colton.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
RECOMMENDATION:
