TO:
FROM:
SLTBJECT:
DATE:
Item #4
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 1, 2003
HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER
AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO AWARD CONTRACT FOR THE
DEMOLITION OF CONCRETE BLEACHERS AT VETERANS PARK
IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 15,300.00 TO J&G INDUSTRIES, INC. AS
THE LOWEST RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER
MARCH 24, 2003
On December 3, 2002, the City Council authorized the demolition of concrete block bleachers and
dugouts adjacent to the ball field in Veteran's Pazk. Initially, Pazks, Recreation and Family Services
staff contacted three (3) Demolition Companies in an effort to get the project completed as quickly
as possible. However, only one company submitted a bid with a cost of $15,000. Since the project
would cost more than $S,OOQ it was considered a"Public Works ProjecY' and necessary to undergo
a formal bidding process.
On February 18, 2003, the City Council authorized the request to solicit public bids for this project.
The advertisement for public bidding began on March 7, 2003 and the bid opening was conducted
on March 24, 2003. Staff received formal proposals from four (4) firms as follows with their
corresponding bid amount:
1. J& G Industries, Inc. $ 15,300.00
2. Intemational Pavement Solution, Inc $ 15,850.00
3. MGG Services $ 16,955.00
4. Hazber Companies, Inc. $ 18,460.00
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
In the normal course of bid review, Engineering Department staff routinely checks the accuracy of
the bid schedule submitted, compliance with all the provisions in bidding documents and
specificarions, validity of bonds and surety, and the qualification of the Contractor based on their
recently completed similar project.
