Item ##10
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF December 2, 2003
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Recreation & Parks Commission
PREPARED BY: Ron Kenny, Community Services Director 0le
SUBJECT: Adjusted Amendment to Resolution No. R-1 16A-93 Establishing Policy for
the Naming of City Parks, Park Features and Community Facilities
DATE: November 24, 2003
BACKGROUND:
In 1993 the Colton City Council established, by resolution, basic guidelines and an application
process for the naming of City parks, park features and community facilities. On October 7 of this
year, the City's Recreation & Parks Commission recommended to the City Council an amended
resolution, which closed loopholes and cleaned up ambiguous language.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The City Council discussed the recommended resolution as forwarded by the Recreation & Parks
Commission. Although they found the recommendation basically acceptable, they recommended
additional items be added. The City Attorney was requested to develop a draft of the Council's
recommendations and forwarded them to staff for inclusion on a future Commission agenda. His
office also developed and included a revised application form.
The Commission met on November 19 to review the City Council's recommendations. By a 5-0
vote, (two commissioners were absent), the Commission approved the Council's recommendations
to the proposed amended resolution. They also approved the revised application form.
A redlined version of the City Council's amendment recommendations to the Commission's original
resolution amendment is attached. Also, a final recommended resolution and application form as
provided by the City Attorney and approved by the Commission.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Recreation and Parks Commission recommends that the City Council approve repealing
Resolution No. R-1 16A-93 and adopt a Resolution establishing a new city policy for the naming
of city parks, park features and community facilities and application form.
