VERNON AVENUE STREET
IMPROVEMENTS AND LANDSCAPE MEDIANS PROJECT
DATE: JANUARY 9, 2003
BACKGROUND:
On March 26, 2002, City Council awarded the Contract in the amount of $ 698,600.00 to Terra -Cal
Construction Inc. for the Mt. Vernon Avenue Street Improvements and Landscape Medians Project.
During construction, it was determined that most of the existing sidewalk on the East and West
Side of Mt. Vernon Avenue were added to the Project. Additional cost of sewer lateral repairs
and removal of driveways are due to existing utilities in conflict with the proposed electrical
conduit. The total estimate for these removal and repairs, as submitted by the contractor at the
request of the City is $92,980.57. This represents 13 % of the contract price.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The Contractor has completed the work on the sidewalks and handicap ramps as specified in the
Contract. City staff held a meeting with the Contractor to discuss the proposed changes. The
proposed Change Order, mutually agreed upon by the Engineering Department and the Contractor,
were drafted as a result of said meeting. The Change Order number 2 is for an amount of
$69,005.37 and Change Order number 3 is for an amount of $23,975.20.
