Item #17
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF October 7,2003
Honorable Mayor and City
Recreation & Parks Commission
REPARED BY: Ron Kenny, Community Services Director
Amendment to Resolution No. R-1 16A-93 Establishing Policy for the
Naming of City Parks, Park Features and Community Facilities
DATE: September 29, 2003
BACKGROUND:
In 1993 the Colton City Council established, by resolution, basic guidelines and an application
process for the naming of City parks, park features and community facilities. A copy of that
information is attached.
Late last year the Recreation & Parks Commission received an application to rename the Colton
Community Center, the Frank A. Gonzales Community Center. During the Commission's application
review process it was felt that the current resolution addressing the policy was vague and left
several areas to interpretation. Upon completion of the Gonzales application process, staff was
requested to place the resolution on the Commission agenda for discussion.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The Recreation & Parks Commission discussed the resolution during two regularly scheduled
meetings. The Commission then approved a draft of an amended resolution and directed staff to
present it to the City Attorney for review.
The City Attorney suggested that two items be combined, but otherwise approved the form of the
amended language as drafted by the Commission. A "redlined copy of the previous resolution with
recommended changes is attached. The Commission voted 7-0 to send their recommendation on
to the City Council.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
The Recreation and Parks Commission recomrnends that the City Council approve repealing
Resolution No. R- I 16A-93 and adopting a Resolution establishing a new city policy for the naming
of city parks, park features and community facilities.
