FRASER, DIRECTOR OF WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATIONS <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF BUDGET AMENDMENT AND REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND <br />RATIFICATION OF ONE EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENTS TO FULL-TIME POSITION OF <br />WATER DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR II IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: September 27, 2004 <br />BACKGROUND <br />There currently is an Eligibility List for the full-time position of Water Distribution Operator II. To ensure that <br />projects and reliable service continues to the community in a timely manner, an additional position is being <br />requested. The salary range for this position is $2,869-$3,487 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />The Water Department currently is engaged in the exercising of water valves, replacement of water <br />mainlines and water meters in order to bring the distribution system up to an acceptable level of operation <br />after years of neglect. Additional staff are needed to complete these tasks and still provide daily customer <br />service and emergency repairs. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the current fiscal budget for this position which will be charged to Account Numbers <br />521-8001-8101-1010 (Salaries) and 521-8001-8101-1100 (Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />There is no environmental impact. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Colton Utility Authority approve the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />one employee appointment to the full-time position of Water Distribution Operator II in the Water <br />Department. <br />Report prepared by: Eric R.
