Whereas, the first Memorial <br />City of Colton <br />2005 <br />merican <br />Post No <br />was observed in 1868 in remembrance of soldiers who <br />died in the Civil War and for 136 years, our nation set aside this day to pay homage to <br />American patriots who have fallen in service to our country; and <br />ll�lfnereas, from the bravery of the soldiers at Gettysburg to the determined troops in <br />1\ today's war on terror, our military has confronted dangers, opposed tyranny and offered <br />hope and opportunity to generations of Americans and those around the world; and <br />Whereas, these courageous men and woman have kept the torch of freedom burning <br />brightly by defending our liberty and upholding the promise of our democracy; and <br />Whereas, in their ultimate sacrifice, we see the goodness and courage of an entire nation <br />and we reminded that the blessings of freedom demand the high calling of selflessness; and <br />Whereas, we honor the legacy of our national heroes by remaining committed to <br />America's ideals and steadfast in our support of our veterans and those in uniform today; and <br />Now Therefore, I, Deirdre H. Bennett, Mayor of the City of Colton and my fellow <br />Council Members, do hereby tender this proclamation to the American Legion Post No. 155, <br />in honor of Memorial Day, May 30, 2005, and in solemn remembrance of the men and <br />women who kept watch over democracy and died in service to our nation. <br />In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and cause the Seal of the <br />City of Colton to be affixed this 17th day of May 2005. <br />DEIRDRE H.
