FA ITEM #19 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COLTON UTILITY AUTHORITY MEETING OF November 15, 2005 TO: HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND UTILITY AUTHORITY MEMBERS FROM: ERIC R. FRASER, DIRECTOR OF WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATIONS SUBJECT: AMEND CONTRACT TO ASSOCIATED ENGINEERS, INC. FOR THE ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING DESIGN FOR WATER MAINLINE REPLACEMENT ON BORDWELL AVENUE. DATE: NOVEMBER 3, 2005 BACKGROUND: Several thousand feet of old, undersized, steel water mainlines were identified as needing replacement due to the presence of discolored water in the pipes. Professional engineering services were performed for the design portion of the project. However, due to unforeseen conditions in the ground, additional professional engineering services are needed to efficiently replace the water mainlines on Bordwell Avenue to Olive Street just Northwest of Lincoln School. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Initially, the engineering design conducted by Associated Engineers, Inc. was estimated to cost approximately Seventy -Seven Thousand Two Hundred Sixty -Six Dollars and No Cents ($77,266). Contracts were executed on October 25, 2004 with Associated Engineers, Inc. Due to the unforeseen conditions noted above, additional engineering design services need to be performed in an amount not -to -exceed Four Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($4,000), resulting in a total cost not -to -exceed Eighty -One Thousand Two Hundred Sixty -Six Dollars and No Cents ($81,266). FINANCIAL IMPACT: Sufficient funds are available in Capital Improvement Account, Number 521-8100-8105-3890- 0000-000.
