ITEM #9 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 18, 2005 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: KENNETH RULON, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF A CALIFORNIA STATE OFFICE OF <br />TRAFFIC SAFETY (OTS) GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $173,366.32 <br />AND ADOPT BUDGET AMENDMENT. <br />DATE: OCTOBER 11, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On September 29, 2005, the California State Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) awarded the City of <br />Colton Police Department a Grant in the amount of 173,366.32 to be used as detailed in the <br />Traffic Safety Program application. The accompanying Resolution is required to accept this Grant <br />and to amend the budget in the amount of $173,366.32. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The OTS Grant was awarded through a competitive process where applicant cities submitted <br />Traffic Safety Projects for review. By working in a cooperative effort with OTS, the Colton Police <br />Department's project was selected to be funded. Funding for the project is by reimbursement and <br />does not require any matching funds. The goal of the Traffic Safety Project is to increase safety <br />to motorists and pedestrians within the City of Colton. Some examples included in the Traffic <br />Safety Program Grant are: <br />• Speed / Radar Trailer <br />• Vehicle Speed Feedback Signs <br />• Radar Speed Equipment <br />• Educational / Promotional Printing <br />• Wireless Communication for Police Motors <br />• Personnel Costs to conduct: <br />o DUI Check Points and Saturation Patrols <br />o Speed Enforcement and Seatbelt Saturation Patrols <br />o Traffic Safety Programs at the High School <br />• Travel Expenses to the OTS Summit Conference. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The accompanying Resolution is required to accept this Grant and to amend the 2005/2006 Fiscal <br />Budget in the amount of $173,366.32. <br />
