ITEM #11
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 18, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Amer Jakher, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Approve resolution amending the original Kretschmar & Smith
Incorporated Agreement for City Hall Remodel Phase 11, In The
Amount Of 21,750.
DATE: October 6, 2005
BACKGROUND:
The Council approved an appropriated budget of $311,000 on September 21, 2004 for the City Hall
Remodel Phase II capital improvement project. The scope of work for this project includes
construction of a locker room and mini -gym for the Police Department.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The scope of work involved in the construction of the City Hall Remodel Phase II Project included
construction of masonry walls in order to expand the existing structure. The city awarded an
agreement to construct the first four feet of masonry walls to Kretschmar & Smith (K&S) in the
amount of $18,000,while the remaining work was to be completed by City crews. We were unable
to schedule the completion of the masonry work due to time constraints. Therefore, K&S was
asked to complete the entire wall structure. Pursuant to Colton Municipal Code Section 3.08.130
(B), since no competitive market exists for this work, staff is requesting ratification of this work
awarded to K&S without competitive bidding. Staff believes no other contractor could have
mobilized and provided the same work for less money.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The funding needed to award the attached amendment to the original agreement in the amount of
$21,750 is available in the original appropriation established by Council action in account number
100-1000-1340-3890.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Not Applicable.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None.
?i10/03 Cit, Ckrk*' Officc Ch
