SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIUREDEVELOPMENT AGENCY/COLTON UTILITY <br />AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF COLTON <br />August 23, 2005 <br />A Special Meeting of the City Council/Redevelopment Agency/Colton Utility Authority of the City of <br />Colton was held at 5:15 p.m., on the above -given date at the Gonzales Community Center in Room <br />Two, located at 670 Colton Avenue, Colton, California, Mayor Bennett presiding. Notice of Special <br />Meeting was given on August 16, 2005, in compliance with Government Code Section 54956. <br />ROLL CALL: <br />Councilmembers present were Suchil, Mitchell, Ramos, Chastain, DeLaRosa, Hernandez, and <br />Mayor Bennett. Also present were City Manager Parrish and City Clerk Barrera. <br />Economic Development Leadership Summit <br />Candace Cassel, Economic Development Director, introduced Mr. Bill Davis who leads Facilitation <br />and Training for the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED). <br />Bill Davis outlined the premise for the workshop and introduced the theme for the workshop: <br />Economic Development Leadership Summit — "Charting the Course to Economic Prosperity." In the <br />form of a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Davis, included the following concepts and ideas for <br />economic development within a community: <br />)C Economic development definitions <br />)C Description of economic development <br />)C Why economic development is important <br />)C Tools for economic development <br />)C Typical economic development activities <br />)C Critical roles in economic development <br />)( Critical issues in economic development <br />)C What the leaders in our community need to do to increase prosperity in Colton <br />Mr. Davis facilitated discussion as to developing an economic development plan for the City of <br />Colton. The process included individual group dynamics and brain storming of ideas that included <br />short term development and implementation and projects that would require an extensive time line to <br />incorporate. <br />Staff was directed to use the ideas that were shared as a tool to begin the design of an economic <br />development plan for the City of Colton. <br />ADJOURNMENT: <br />At 8:10 P.M.
