Hutton, Public Works Director <br />SUBJECT: NEWRANDI.M OF UNDERSTANDING FOR TEN CITIES AND Date: August 1 , 1990 <br />COUNTY SOURCE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING ELEMENTS <br />AS MANDATED BY ASSEMBLY BILL 939 <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Colton is a member of the county wide task force executive committee <br />responsible for implementing an integrated waste management plan. <br />STATSVIENT OF THE PROBLEM <br />The cities of the east San Bernardino Valley together with the County of San <br />Bernardino, share a ccrrmon interest in providing an environmentally safe collection <br />and disposal method of solid waste materials as mandated by A.B. 939. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The study is mandated by the State of California and recommended by the county. wide <br />task force. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The study cost will be paid for out of the $1 .00 per ton tipping fee collected by <br />San Bernardino County. <br />ENVIROPNENTAL INPACT <br />The study will provide a plan to reduce solid waste and increase recycling. <br />RECCNNIENDAT ION <br />If Council concurs, staff would recommend approval of the attached Memorandum of <br />Understanding for the ten (10) cities shown and the County of San Bernardino <br />irplarenting the source reduction and recycling elements of the integrated waste <br />management plan. <br />Attachments: <br />Page t of .1— Item No. / / <br />
