CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of February 20. 1990 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Jennifer Thornberry, Executive Director and Secretary SUBJECT: Approval of Interim Parking Plan for "E"Street Date: February 16,1990 During Construction of Senior Housing Complex RA(" Xr.R()T TND As Council members are aware, on February 6, 1990 the Redevelopment Agency awarded contracts for site preparation work for the Colton Senior Housing Complex. DISCUSSION: The contract for site demolition includes removal of all paved areas of the former Safeway Store parking lot. The contract for removal of the parking areas includes removal of the interim parking lot created for overflow City Hall employee parking. In order to continue to provide for overflow City Hall parking, staff has developed the attached plan to provide for temporary diagonal parking on "E" Street until the design for future permanent spaces can be completed. The temporary plan has been approved by the Public Works Department. In order to solve the longer term parking needs, we have recently hired an en- gineering firm to redesign the existing City Hall parking lot to provide for improved circulation and approximately 40 permanent additional parking spaces. To provide for additional parking on "E" Street, we are also pre- paring a plan to widen the street between 9th Street and La Cadena Drive to create diagonal parking spaces on the north side of the street. In ad- dition, Staff is negotiating with the property owner at the northeast cor- ner of 9th and "E" St. to acquire the vacant parcel for additional parking. If acquired, the parcel will accommodate approximately 15 additional park- ing spaces. RECCMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council approval of the temporary parking plan for "E" Street during construction of the Colton Senior Housing Complex.
