SOTELO, City Manager' <br />SUBJECT: Award of Bid for SF -6 Switches to South <br />West Power in the Amount of $28,178.00 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Date: June 25, 1990 <br />SF -6 switches are purchased into the Electric Stores inventory. They <br />are used to parallel 2 electrical circuits in the field, making it pos- <br />sible to switch these circuits in the field. The quantity needed is <br />determined by the City's Electrical Engineer. <br />On May 31, 1990, General Services advertised for sealed bids for this <br />requirement. Bid opening was held at 2:30 p.m., June 18, 1990, in the <br />General Services office. Four bids were received and evaluated by the <br />Electrical Engineer. A Bid Analysis is attached showing price and de- <br />livery. The recommended vendor's price is underlined. <br />STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM <br />The low bid was received from Cooper Power Systems. Their bid did not <br />meet specifications. They quoted on a vacuum switch instead of an SF -6 <br />gas wsitch. <br />The second low bid was received from G & W Electric, c/o Banes Associates. <br />Their bid also did not meet specifications. They cound not supply a <br />switch with a 200 amp. solid tap. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The third low bid was received from South West Power.
