STRATTON, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: ADDITION OF POLICE OFFICER TO STAFF INLAND Date: <br />REGIONAL NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT TEAM 7-30-91 <br />BACKGROUND <br />The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is in the process of <br />establishing a regional task force to deal with the importation of <br />drugs for sale in San Bernardino County. As proposed, this task <br />force would have representatives from every law enforcement agency in <br />the county and its purpose would be to identify, arrest and convict <br />high level drug traffickers and to seize and distribute assets <br />derived through drug trafficking. <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE <br />The Police Department is requesting to hire one additional police <br />officer to serve on the Inland Regional Narcotics Enforcement Team. <br />The County will initially pay for the full cost of this officer <br />through their asset seizure money. These funds will be reimbursed <br />later by assets seized by the task force. In addition, Colton would <br />share in asset seizures which could support its own programs. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Council may approve or not approve staff's recommendation. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />There would be no cost to the City's General Fund for the additional <br />staff person.
