CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of July 2, 1991 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council John C. Hutton, Public Works Director FROM: Renovation of Existing Air Conditioning DateJune 27, 1991 SUBJECT:System Servicing the Finance Department and City Manager's Office - Authorize Expenditure in the Amount of $7,000.00 BACKGROUND The Civic Center air conditioning system has been altered several times due to building additions and renovations, causing it to be less efficient and requiring increasingly more repairs on the -` faltering system. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Increase in building size, rooms being divided or partitioned off, and the use of an unmatched design ventilation/ducting system rendered the air conditioning units ineffective. It is anticipated that there may be a complete system failure unless immediate action is taken. City Code Section 3.08.090 requires formal bidding procedures for items which are anticipated to exceed $5,000.00. The Council may waive the requirement for formal bidding in emergencies. The Public Works Department has solicited informal quotes and is recommending the attached proposal. ALTERNATIVES Completely redesigning and renovating for the entire Civic Center. The time redesign will be lengthy and may leave with no air conditioning this summer. FINANCIAL IMPACT the air conditioning to complete such a parts of the Civic system Center The current existing need is to segregate the one unit currently serving both departments and install a separate unit just for the City Manager/RDA office area; approximate cost is $7,000.00 per attached quote.
