CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of March 19, 1991
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Authorization to Purchase Replacement
Blueprint Machine for Public Works
Date: March 12, 1991
The Engineering Division supplies blueprinting services to several Departments in
the City, citizens and developers. The blueprints made are copies of original
public maps and documents which do not exist anywhere except in the official
Engineering files for the City of Colton.
Projects that develop within the City rely exclusively on the availability of
information of public records for sewer, water, storm drains, tracts and parcel
maps to plan their specific project needs.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
The current blueprint machine that the Engineering Division relies on for these
services is over7 years old and has been out -of -service for the past two months
(parts are no longer available). The Engineering Division requested a new blue-
print machine in the FY90-91 budget, but it was cut due to financial constraints.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The RDA, which utilizes the blueprint machine, and the Engineering Division has
agreed to contribute funds collectively to acquire a new blueprint machine in order
to resume this much needed service.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The Engineering staff gathered information on several blueprint machines and found
one that the Bruning Company builds which does not require the use of chemical
ammonia in the blueprinting process. This eliminates the need to order ammonia
containers and the possibility of ammonia spills while changing containers. Also,
the need for a special breathing apparatus is eliminated.
Attachments:
RIECOIRM
FILE NO.._l'.. ........... ;......
Item No.7—
