CITY OF COLTON
`oorrorosa
AGENDA REPORT" 8 7
lfota
For Council Meeting of December 1, 1992
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: November 17, 1992
FROM: GALE A. DREWS
Electric Utility Director
SUBJECT: Award of Bid for a Polyurethane Foam Roof System for the Electric Department Substation to
the Bryant Organization, Inc. in the Amount of $11,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
The roof on the Electric Department Substation building at 150 South 10th Street has numerous leaks which
endangers the switch gear in the building. On October 22 and 29, 1992, we advertised for quotations for a
polyurethane foam roof system which is a good roof system for metal buildings. Bid opening for this project
took place at 3:00 P.M., November 9, 1992 in the Electric Department.
DISCUSSION:
We only received one bid on this requirement and it is from Bryant Organization, Inc. in San Bernardino.
Their bid amount was $11,939.00 for the project. They recommended that we increase the depth of the foam
from 1" to 1 1/2", and increase the coating from 2.5 gallons per square to 3.75 gallons per square. With these
additions, we would receive a five year warranty rather than the normal two year warranty. In addition, they
would prefer not to have to provide the Performance Bond that we traditionally ask for in public projects. In
consideration for relieving them of this requirement, they will do the project for $11,000.00. Staff feels this
is an appropriate consideration since we have used this vendor before with good results and it is a very small
project to require bonding.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends waiving the Performance Bond requirement and awarding the contract to Bryant
Organization, Inc. in the amount of $11,000.00.
Report prepared by Ken Peterson, General Services Manager.
City Manager concurrence
Item No.
