TO: HONORABLE MAYOR and CITY COUNCIL VA
FOR: Council Meeting of 21 January 1992
FROM: Jaime R. Aguilera, Director of Community Development G
SUBJECT: Agreement with Gary Jackson to accept dedication of a utility easement.
BACKGROUND: E
The Electric Department is obligated to serve the area south of Mr. Jackson's property.
In order for them to extend the electrical service to the end users, it would be more efficient N
to traverse Mr. Jackson's property. Therefore, the Electric Utility has asked Mr. Jackson
to provide the City with a utility easement.
Mr. Jackson has stated that he would be more than happy to give the easement. Mr.
Jackson, however, brought to our attention that the Electric Utility is charging him
$1,212.00 to move electric lines for the purpose of allowing him to move the "Cooley House"
to his property in Reche Canyon. Mr. Jackson has proposed that he would like to trade ^
his easement for the cost identified above. H
ANALYSIS:
It is staff's opinion that the cost of purchasing the easement or going around Mr. Jackson's
property would be higher than the amount we would charge him for moving power lines
for the house relocation. The Electric Utility Director, Gayle Drews, has indicated his R
agreement to the exchange.
RECOMMENDATION: E
Staff recommends the Council authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement to
exchange the utility easement for the cost of moving utility lines for the purpose of allowing
the transportation of the Cooley House from its present to ation to Mr. Jackson's property.
