CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of July 7, 1992
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Julie Biggs, Attorney
SUBJECT: Date: June 7, 1992
NON -EMERGENCY AMBULANCE FRANCHISE ORDINANCE
The enclosed ordinance regarding ambulance services within the City of Colton covers primarily non -emergency
transportation and stand-by at special events, but it also contains provisions relating to emergency ambulance services.
Although the County of San Bernardino has taken the position that cities cannot regulate emergency ambulance
services, we believe that the City is able to charge a business license fee for those services. The ordinance permits
the City to determine, on a case by case basis, whether it is necessary and appropriate to issue a franchise to ani
particular provider of ambulance services for non -emergency transportation of patients.
Should the City elect to become such a provider, nothing in this ordinance would prevent the City from authorizing
itself as a franchisee under the terms provided.
Attachments:
Page 1 of -1 Item No._ 23
