CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of March 17, 1992 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: City Attorney <br />Date: 3/12/92 <br />SUBJECT: Ordinance Amending The Colton Municipal <br />Municipal Code To Prohibit Disorderly <br />Conduct And To Increase The Penalty For <br />The Destruction Of Public Property <br />Attached is a proposed Ordinance adding Chapter 19.18 to the Colton <br />Municipal Code in order to prohibit disorderly conduct by making such <br />activity a misdemeanor. The proposed Chapter generally prohibits the <br />following: Accosting others in public in order to beg or solicit alms; <br />loitering with an intent to commit a crime; drunkenness in public; and <br />sleeping in public or private places without authorization. Under the <br />current Colton Municipal Code, such activities are not expressly <br />identified as Code violations. <br />In addition, the proposed Ordinance amends Colton Municipal Code Section <br />9.25.040 in order to make the destruction or injury of public property a <br />misdemeanor punishable by six months in County Jail or a fine not to <br />exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or both. Presently, Section <br />9.25.040 provides for a penalty of a fine in any sum not less than one <br />dollar ($1.00) and not more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00). Finally, <br />the proposed ordinance repeals Colton Municipal Code Section 9.24.020. <br />RECOMMENDATION• <br />The City Council approve the attached proposed Ordinance for finalization <br />by the City Attorney and signature of the Mayor.
