CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of May 5, 1992 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: GORDON R. JOHNSON, PERSONNEL DIRECTOR P QDate: 4-28-92 <br />SUBJECT: <br />HOURLY EMPLOYEES <br />BACKGROUND <br />Each summer, the City hires a JTPA Coordinator and a JTPA Counselor <br />to administer the Summer Youth Employment and Training Program. The <br />JTPA Coordinator's salary range is $2298 - $2793 per month or $13.25 <br />- $16.11 per hour. The JTPA Counselor is only paid $8.00 per hour. <br />The Counselor's job has evolved into that of Assistant JTPA <br />Coordinator, assisting in all aspects of program administration. <br />Last year, the City Manager authorized upgrading the Counselor <br />position to the Administrative Assistant pay range of $1879 - $2285 <br />per month or $10.84 - $13.18 per hour. In order to obtain the <br />quality of person needed to fill this position, I request that the <br />class title of Assistant JTPA Coordinator be established with an <br />hourly pay rate of $11.96 per hour, the equivalent of Administrative <br />Assistant, step "C" since the job will be full-time for over 4 months <br />with no fringe benefits. The title "JTPA Counselor" should be <br />eliminated. <br />This position is totally funded by the City of Colton's JTPA grant <br />already approved by San Bernardino County. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the attached Resolution fixing <br />the compensation for part-time hourly employees with the inclusion of <br />the position of Assistant JTPA Coordinator and removal of JTPA <br />Counselor. <br />Concu L-ef�t2 <br />City Manager <br />Attachments: Resolution <br />D9:AJTPA <br />
