CITY OF COLTON
\'OrvorAs
AGENDA REPORT887 "
1887
` i f 0,
For Council Meeting of October 6, 1992
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
DATE: September 17, 1992
FROM: GORDON R. JOHNSON
Personnel Director
SUBJECT: PARKS MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR - NEW JOB TITLE & PAY RATE
BACKGROUND
The City's Parks Division coordinates workers referred by the courts in performing routine unskilled and semi-
skilled manual labor most weekends, primarily maintaining city parks and parkways, mowing and edging lawns
and picking up litter. Currently, a part-time Senior Recreation Leader and two part-time Recreation Leader
III employees are performing this assignment. The Senior Recreation Leader is paid $8.50/hour and the
Recreation Leader III makes $5.75/hour. It is not appropriate to have people performing the same duties being
paid at different hourly rates. In addition, the job titles and descriptions for these two classifications do not
accurately portray the job duties.
There are no other part-time Senior Recreation Leaders in the City of Colton and there is no plan to appoint
more. Therefore, it is desirable to delete that job title and replace it with a more appropriate one, Parks
Maintenance Coordinator, at the same $8.50/hour salary range and assign the Senior Recreation Leader and
two Recreation Leader III employees to that job title. Attached for your reference is a job description for the
new job title.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding is incorporated in the 1992-93 Parks Division budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council adopt the attached resolution fixing the compensation for part-time hourly
employees and repealing resolution no. R-62-92. The only difference between the two resolutions is the
deletion of Senior Recreation Leader - $8.50/hour and the addition of Parks Maintenance Coordinator -
$8.50/hour.
Concur eC
City Manager
C:PMNTCOOR
7
