E A OUNCIL FROM: PA 0 Community Develop ent Direc or SUBJECT: Consider Approval of an application for a Dance Permit per section 5.32.040 of the Colton Municipal Code DATE: January 20, 1994 BACKGROUND: Siquio's Restaurant, located at 1395 East Washington Street, has operated in the City with a general liquor license since 1985. The owner, Mr. Hesiquio E. Gutierrez, is requesting a permit to allow public dances, pursuant to Chapter 5.32 "Dances", Section 5.32.040 "Permit Application and Issuance". DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Mr. Gutierrez has provided information that indicates that he has 29 years of previous experience in operating a combination of restaurant and dance facility. The proposed hours of operation are Thursday nights through Sunday nights, between the hours of 8:00 p.m till 2:00 a.m. In addition, dances would be conducted as part of special occasions and functions, (wedding receptions, business buffets,etc.) during normal business hours. As part of the conditions for approval, the occupancy load limits will be set by the City of Colton Fire Department. The City of Colton Police Department shows no history of problems at this location. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Siquio's Restaurant has provided a consistent source of revenue to the City of Colton in the form of Sales and Business License Tax. It is projected that these incomes will increase between 12 to 20 percent annually. There is no negative impact anticipated on traffic or on other businesses within the surrounding area. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the dance permit for Siquio's Restaurant. JCW:tg Attachments: Letter from Hesiquio E.
