CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of June 21, 1994 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: Randy Anstine, Director of Recreation & Human Se ;wa�;,� SUBJECT:Annual City Birthday Celebration DATE: June 15, 1994 BACKGROUND: Staff is in the process of planning for the Annual City Birthday Celebration, to be held on July 9, 1994. As in the past, the celebration is planned to be held at the Colton High School Stadium. Funding for this activity comes from the Community Promotions Account, and funds are available. This year, unlike in the past, staff is recommending that Council consider charging an attendance fee. By charging a fee, the City would be able to recoup some of the charges incurred. Staff has surveyed other agencies, to ascertain what charges they impose for like celebrations, and is attached to this report. The Colton High Stadium seats 5,000 people. Staff is recommending that a fee of $3.00 per adult and $1.00 per child be charged. If approved, staff is projecting that the City could net approximately $5,000.00. BUDGET ANALYSIS: Fireworks $11,000.00 Sound Equipment $ 19700.00 Posters (200) $ 675.00 Rental of Stadium $ 375.00 Personnel Charges $ 172.36 Musical Entertainment $ 19200.00 Entertainment for Children $ 1,100.00 T O T A L $169222.36 RECOMMENDATION: If Council desires to continue with the Annual Birthday Celebration, Council would need to approve an expenditure in the amount of $16,222.36, from the Community Promotions Fund. If the event is approved, staff recommends that Council consider establishing an attendance fee. Additionally, at the June 15th meeting of the Colton Parks & Recreation Commission, said Commission, by way of a majority vote, is recommending that Council consider not having this event due to the cost.
