Lavin, Water Utilities Manager 014( 9 <br />SUBJECT: Date <br />Approval of Lemna Project Contract and <br />Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants' Contract <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Utilities Commission, City Council and Regional Water Quality Control Board <br />have authorized a demonstration project for the Lemna Secondary Water Treatment <br />Process. In conjunction with the Lemna Project, Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants, is to <br />be retained for project design and management. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Attached is a copy of the negotiated contract with Lemna for the demonstration <br />project. The contract has been approved by the City Attorney and recommended <br />by the Utilities Commission for approval at their March 14, 1994 meeting. <br />Also attached is a copy of the contract with Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants for the <br />design of the Lemna Project and for construction management of the project. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The total amount of the Lemna cost is $999,058.00. The Lemna design cost for <br />this fiscal year is $34,741.00 and $964,317.00 for next fiscal year. The Lemna <br />costs due not include construction costs. A cost estimate for construction will be <br />prepared by Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants. <br />The Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants contract is in the amount of $61,000.00 <br />Sufficient funds for the project and consultant contracts are available, however, <br />funds in the amount of $95,741.00 will need to be transferred from the Sewer <br />Tertiary Treatment Account #22-9405-89 to the Sewer Secondary Treatment <br />Account #22-9406-89. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the Lemna Project contract in the amount <br />of $999,058.00 and the Kennedy -Jenks, Consultants' contract in the amount of <br />$61,000.00. <br />Attachm�14 <br />Page 1 of___ <br />Item No._ /I <br />
