R-07-11 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON <br />APPROVING EFFORTS TO ACQUIRE FUNDING FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A <br />SKATE PARK AT CESAR CHAVEZ PARK <br />WHEREAS, the City of Colton has designated space at Cesar Chavez Park for a skate <br />park facility, and; <br />WHEREAS, skateboarding has been recognized as the most popular outdoor activity <br />within the teen population, and; <br />WHEREAS, skateboarding has become an extremely popular activity for many of <br />Colton's youth, and there is currently no established skate park in the community, and; <br />WHEREAS, staff has worked with a group of teens at the Art Thompson Teen Center, <br />to construct and approve a design for a modular skate park which incorporates the direct input <br />and wishes of the teens who would utilize the facility, and; <br />WHEREAS, this teen working group has also provided input on the importance of <br />skate parks, as well as prospective safety rules for such a facility, and; <br />WHEREAS, this design was reviewed by the Recreation & Parks Commission at their <br />regular meeting of January 19, 2011, and; <br />WHEREAS, there are currently funding sources available that provide funding for the <br />construction of skate parks in communities, including the Tony Hawk Foundation, and; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Colton does hereby resolve as <br />follows: <br />Section 1: The City Council supports efforts to acquire funding, including the pursuit of <br />grant opportunities, for the construction of a skate park at the currently designated location in <br />Cesar Chavez Park, and,/ <br />Section 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized to sign the applicable documents on <br />behalf of the City to facilitate this effort. <br />
