CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 6, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manager
ddg;;;
FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief --
SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment
to the full time position of Fire Engineer
DATE: February 26, 2001
BACKGROUND:
There are 12 Fire Engineer and 12 Fire Captain positions within the Fire Department.
We expect the retirement of one or more Captains after July, 2001. If an engineer is
promoted to fill the vacant position, it will create a vacant Fire Engineer position.
Therefore, staff requests that a recruitment be conducted to establish an eligibility list to
fill the anticipated Engineer position vacancy.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Recruitment for the position will be conducted and an eligibility list established, upon
City Council approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience
requirements, as specified in the job description (copy attached).
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funds for the position have been budgeted in the 2001-02 Fiscal Year from Account
Number 100-6090-6091-1010 (Salaries) and 100-6090-6091-1100 (Salary Related
Benefits).
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
ALTERNATIVES:
Not to fill the position.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT:
To ensure the proper daily maintenance and emergency scene operations of fire
apparatus, personnel assigned to these tasks should have proven themselves in the
promotional process.
Item #.--6
