CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the City Council Meeting of June 19, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: DARYL PARRISH, CITY MANAGER
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIREOTOR
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF GRANT OF EASEMENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
EDISON
DATE: JUNE 11, 2001
BACKGROUND
Southern California Edison Company, a corporation, requests the City of Colton to grant it an
easement of certain real property owned by the city for installing fiber optic cable for commercial
telecommunication.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The proposed location is between the railroad tracks on Mill St, and consists of a small strip of
land, approximately 12 feet wide, less than 1,400 square feet total area. Cable will be installed
within the street right of way, avoiding disruption to the surface property. A Grant of Easement
by the City to Edison is an action that serves to continue the on-going positive relationship we
maintain with Southern California Edison.
ALTERNATIVES
Not granting an easement would force Southern California Edison to use another route for the
cable, which could impact a wider area.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Edison will pay the City $500 for the easement.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached Grant of Easement to Southern
California Edison and that it be recorded accordingly.
Report prepared by: Michelle Pierce, Electrical Systems Engineer
Pana 1 of 4 Wattachments)
REVIEW TEAZ Y
city Attorney: Finance Director:
city Manager: ` OTHER:
