CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />rUr[ %,UUMAL IYICC I IIYb Ur <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Director.,6' <br />SUBJECT: Consider Approval of Application to Attach a Name to the City <br />Structure Currently Known as the N Street Underpass <br />DATE: May 17, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Community Services Department has received an application to attach a name to the City - <br />owned structure currently known as the N Street Underpass. The proposed name for the <br />structure is the "Pasqua) S. Oliva Underpass." The structure would be named in honor of former <br />Colton Mayor Paqual Oliva, who served as Colton's 16`" appointed Mayor, from 1966-1968. The <br />application, along with supporting material, was submitted by Angel Oliva, and copies have been <br />attached. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The City application to name the facility has been submitted, and the public notice regarding this <br />proposal has been published in accordance with City Council Resolution R-108-03. The City <br />Clerk has received no public comment, nor alternate applications, during this public notice period, <br />which closed on March 30, 2006. The application was considered by the Recreation & Parks <br />Commission, at their meeting of April 19, 2006, and said Commission voted to forward a <br />recommendation of approval of the application to the City Council. If the City Council approves <br />this application, the Community Services Department will work with the Engineering Department <br />to plan a dedication event for the renaming of this structure, and a commemorative plaque will be <br />placed permanently on the structure itself. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The financial impact to the City, if this application is approved, will consist of the purchase and <br />installation of a commemorative plaque on the structure, and the planning and implementation of <br />a dedication event. The total cost of these impacts is expected not to exceed $2,000, and will be <br />absorbed within the currently approved General Fund Budget for fiscal year 2005-06. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />Applicant: Angel Oliva — Loma Linda, California <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that City Council approve the application to attach the name "Pasqua) S.
