CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT rUr[ %,UUMAL IYICC I IIYb Ur TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Director.,6' SUBJECT: Consider Approval of Application to Attach a Name to the City Structure Currently Known as the N Street Underpass DATE: May 17, 2006 BACKGROUND: The Community Services Department has received an application to attach a name to the City - owned structure currently known as the N Street Underpass. The proposed name for the structure is the "Pasqua) S. Oliva Underpass." The structure would be named in honor of former Colton Mayor Paqual Oliva, who served as Colton's 16`" appointed Mayor, from 1966-1968. The application, along with supporting material, was submitted by Angel Oliva, and copies have been attached. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The City application to name the facility has been submitted, and the public notice regarding this proposal has been published in accordance with City Council Resolution R-108-03. The City Clerk has received no public comment, nor alternate applications, during this public notice period, which closed on March 30, 2006. The application was considered by the Recreation & Parks Commission, at their meeting of April 19, 2006, and said Commission voted to forward a recommendation of approval of the application to the City Council. If the City Council approves this application, the Community Services Department will work with the Engineering Department to plan a dedication event for the renaming of this structure, and a commemorative plaque will be placed permanently on the structure itself. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact to the City, if this application is approved, will consist of the purchase and installation of a commemorative plaque on the structure, and the planning and implementation of a dedication event. The total cost of these impacts is expected not to exceed $2,000, and will be absorbed within the currently approved General Fund Budget for fiscal year 2005-06.
