IN THE
AMOUNT OF $60,356.25.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that City Council approve the purchase of a hydraulic dawg (underground
wire puller) from Sherman & Reilly, Inc. in the amount of $60,356.25.
GOAL STATEMENT
The proposed action will support the City's goal to provide safe, reliable, affordable, and
environmentally sustainable electric service.
BACKGROUND
The Electric utility utilizes a hydraulic dawg (underground wire puller) to install underground
cable throughout the electric system. The existing equipment is over 20 years old and it is
becoming difficult to find parts for repair. Additionally, the older equipment is not capable of
handling the larger cable now used by the utility in various sections of the electric system.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
There is only one manufacturer of the hydraulic dawg, Sherman & Reilly, Inc. in Chattanooga,
Tennessee. The manufacturer will sell equipment directly to the City of Colton.
FISCAL IMPACTS
The replacement of the existing underground wire pulling equipment was approved in the FY
09/10 Electric Utility Department budget and funds are available in account number 520-8000-
8004-4930-0101-000.
