STAFF REPORT ITEM NO. 05 DATE: AUGUST 3, 2010 TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROD FOSTER, CITY MANAGER PREPARED BY: BILL SMITH, COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR /, -'I SUBJECT: FACILITY NAMING APPLICATION — JERRY & SHEILA RIOS FIELD RECOMMENDED ACTION It is recommended that the City Council approve Resolution R-57-10, attaching the name "Jerry & Sheila Rios Field" to the northeastern or `B" ball field at Elizabeth Davis Park. GOAL STATEMENT The proposed action will support the City's goal to effectively process facility naming applications received from the public, in accordance with City policy, as set by Resolution R-86- 09. BACKGROUND The City has received an Application for the Naming of Parks, Park Features, or Community Facilities, from Gary Grossich. This application calls for the naming of the northeastern or `B" ball field at Elizabeth Davis Park. The proposed name is "Jerry & Sheila Rios Field." A copy of the application, as well as supporting material provided by the applicant, is attached to this report. ISSUES/ANALYSIS The application has been processed in accordance with Resolution R-86-09, including all posting and noticing requirements. The Recreation & Parks Commission considered the application at its regular meeting of July 21, 2010. After discussion, the Commission voted 5-0 to forward a recommendation to City Council that it approve the application. According to Resolution R-86- 09, the final decision on the application rests with City Council.
