Yaurol <br />a, mmu ity Development Director C <br />SUBJECT: Public Hearing to Consider the Historic Designation of Landmark E <br />#33 located at 528 West "H" Street. <br />N <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On March 10, 1993, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission reviewed the D <br />designation of the following site as a Historic Landmark within the City of Colton: <br />Landmark #33 Residence 528 West "H" Street <br />('The Earp House") <br />The designation for the residential dwelling was requested by the dwelling owner and is <br />significant under the architecutre and settlement themes. <br />ANALYSIS: <br />The residential dwelling at 528 West "H" Street was built between 1885 and 1887. It is an <br />interesting example of a simple bungalow, details including decorative carvings on the <br />eaves and the use of spindle work and decorqative wall paterns within the gables. The C <br />building is closely associated with Virgil Earp, who was elected as the first Marshall of the G <br />City of Colton in 1887. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: P <br />The designation of the historic landmarks will not create any financial impact on the City. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Based on the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission's review of the historically R <br />eligible site, and their recommendation to the City Council, Staff recommends designation <br />of Historic Landmark #33, as described above. <br />- T <br />Agenda Report LAND 33.CHP <br />Page 1 of 2 item No. _ <br />
