CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENT IN THE FULL TIME POSITION OF UTILTIIES <br />INSPECTOR IN THE UTILITY DEPARTMENT <br />I DATE: MARCH 17, 1998 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />There is one (1) vacant Utilities Inspector position in the Utility Department. Attached is the job <br />description of the classification; the salary range is $2,708 to $3,291 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list established upon Council's <br />approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as <br />specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funding availability for this approved Enterprise Fund in FY97-98 Water/Wastewater <br />Administration budget as follows: Account No. 521-8100-8102-1010 (salary) and Account No. <br />521-8100-8102-1100 (salary related benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: <br />May 18, 1998 <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: <br />The Utilities Inspector works directly with contractors and developers during the construction of <br />projects. This position also provides assistance to the Utilities Plans Examiner in reviewing <br />plans for development. The filling of the position will allow the Water and Wastewater <br />Departments to provide faster inspection services for new development as well as allow the <br />three positions covering the duties now more time for the performance of their assigned duties. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the employee <br />appointment to the full time position of Utilities Inspector in the Utility Department <br />Report Prepared By: Lorraine June <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
