CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF July 16.2002
Item #8
TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
FROM: Ronald C. Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Service
PREPARED BY: R. Hugh Margesson, Childcare Director
SUBJECT: Adoption of Childcare State Preschool Contract with the State
Department of Education for Fiscal Year 2002/03 and Authorization
for City Manager to Sign Contract Documents
DATE:
July 2, 2002
BACKGROUND:
The City Council approved the Parks, Recreation & Family Services to enter into
agreements with the State Department of Education to provide state preschool childcare
services to the community. This contract is ongoing, but has to be renewed each fiscal
year. Historically the City Manager has been the designated authority to sign all state
contracts.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
For fiscal year 2002/03, the State Preschool Grant will make services available for
approximately 56 preschool -age children from low-income families. The state requires a
designated authority to sign on behalf of the City for all childcare contracts.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
FISCAL IMPACT:
Last years grant was $142,613. This year's grant is $147,896 resulting in an increase in
revenue of $5,283 for the State Preschool Grant. The increase in funds should be placed
into account 206-5776 (revenue), and should be charged to expenditure account #206-
7200-7203-2304. There is no general fund impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the above increase and adopt the resolution
and altered budget to enter into agreement No. GPRE-2283 with the Department of
Education for Childcare Services. Staff also recommends authorization for the City
Manager to sign the contract documents necessary to effectuate the City's approval of
contract GPRE-2283 for Childcare.
Attachment
REVIEW TEAM ONLY (
City Attorney: , w Finance Director: N
City Manager: OTHER:
