CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For the City Council Meeting of July 16, 2002 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Thomas K.Clarke, Electric Utility Director <br />SUBJECT: Award of Contract for the Purchase of Portable Evaporative <br />Coolers to Home Depot in the Amount of $9,158.75 <br />DATE: July 8, 2002 <br />Item #10 <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Colton Electric Utility Department previously received an allocation of California <br />SB5X funds to help residential and commercial utility customers reduce their energy use. <br />Energy Services has implemented an evaporative cooler program to help meet the SB5X <br />demand reduction goal of 143 kW. The coolers purchased for this program will be distributed to <br />low income residential customers upon recommendation of the City's Energy Services staff. <br />DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS <br />On June 13, 2002, the Electric Utility Department posted a Notice Inviting Bids for two different <br />types of portable evaporative coolers. Bid opening was held at the City of Colton Corporate <br />Yard at 10:00 A.M. on June 27, 2002. One bid was received from Home Depot. The bid <br />submitted was for Item #2 only. No bids were received for Item #1. This item may be <br />purchased on the open market in accordance with Section 3.08.140 of the City's Municipal <br />Code. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funds have been provided to the City as part of California's SB5X Program and are available <br />and will be charged to expense account number 520-8000-8050-2301-0000-000. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council award a contract for Item #2, to Home Depot, Inc. in the <br />Amount of $9,158.75 and to authorize staff to purchase Item #1 on the open market in <br />accordance with City of Colton Municipal Code, Section 3.08.140. <br />Report prepared by Rebecca Gallegos, Buyer <br />Attachments: (1) Bid Ana <br />REVIEW TE_ 7 Y <br />City Attorney: <br />City Manager: <br />Finance Director: <br />OTHER: <br />
