Item #13
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 16, 2002
Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Attorney
SUBJECT: Second Amendment to City Manager Employment Agreement
DATE: July 16, 2002
BACKGROUND:
Council and staff attended a workshop in June which was presented by Strategic Business
Ethics, Inc. One of the issues discussed during the workshop involved the City Manager
taking disciplinary action against City employees who use their relationships with
Councilmembers or within the community to influence City policies or decisions.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
During the workshop, Council and staff agreed that the City Manager should be able to
take the above described disciplinary action without fear of reprisal from any
Councilmember. Council and staff further agreed to amend the City Manager's contract
to include a provision regarding this matter. Accordingly, the City Attorney drafted the
subject provisions and has provided for the Council's consideration the attached Second
Amendment to the Employment Agreement between the City of Colton and the City
Manager.
ALTERNATIVES:
Deny approval of the Second Amendment to the Employment Agreement between
the City of Colton and the City Manager.
2. Recommend revisions to the Second Amendment.
3. Take no action.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No financial impact.
