Item #2
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF May 7, 2002
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER 45'
SUBJECT: FIRST READING OF ORDINANCE AMENDING EXISTING
ORDINANCE NO. 0-01-01, SECTION 15.18.140 TO REFLECT THE
RECENT REORGANIZATION AND DEPARTMENTAL RESTRUCTURE
OF THE CITY OF COLTON
DATE: APRIL 18, 2002
BACKGROUND:
Ordinance No. 0-01-01, an ordinance of the City of Colton Amending Chapter 15.18, Title 15 of
the Colton Municipal Code regarding Floodplain Management Regulations was adopted by the
Colton City Council on February 20, 2001.
In Section 15.18.140 the Floodplain Administrator is "...the City Manager and the Director of
Public Works, as the designated appointee... ". After the City's Public Works Director retired in
May of 2001, the Public Works Department was reorganized, restructured, and renamed. The
Street Division and the Auto Shop were combined and renamed the Public Services Department;
Building Maintenance was rerouted to the Parks, Recreation and Family Services Department;
and an in-house City Engineer was hired. Shortly thereafter, the Engineering Division became
the Engineering Department. The above -noted section of the Colton Municipal Code was never
modified to reflect these changes.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
As the City no longer has a Public Works Director, but does have a City Engineer in place, Section
15.18.140 of Ordinance 0-01-01 needs to be revised by replacing Director of Public Works with
City Engineer.
The first reading of an Ordinance of the City of Colton amending Section 15.18.140 of
Ordinance No. 0-01-01, of Chapter 15.18, Title 15 of the Colton Municipal Code regarding
Floodplain Management Regulations, is hereby presented.
