Item #1
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF November 5, 2002
Mayor and
Daryl Parrish, City Manager
FROM: City Attorney
SUBJECT: Adoption of California Fire Code
DATE: October 17, 2002
BACKGROUND:
On October 1, 2002, the City Council conducted first reading of an ordinance adopting, by
reference, the California Fire Code. At the same meeting, the City Council scheduled the
public hearing for the ordinance for October 15, 2002. Due to a clerical error, the notice of
public hearing was not published prior to October 15, 2002. As a result, the public hearing
was continued to November 5, 2002.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Adoption of the California Fire Code and the proposed local amendments is designed to
provide consistency in the application and enforcement of building and housing standards
with a particular emphasis on local needs and with the goal of protecting lives and property
from fire damage. If the City Council determines not to adopt the proposed Ordinance, the
California Fire Code, without the local amendments addressing the City of Colton's local
conditions, would apply. Adopting the California Fire Code without the local amendments
would restrict the City's ability to enforce life and property safety requirements based on
local conditions and the specific needs of the City of Colton.
ALTERNATIVES:
Adopt the Ordinance adopting, by reference, the California Fire Code.
2. Take no action.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
