Item #4
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 5, 2002
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER 4 )
SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #2119 NO PARKING
AREAS ALONG CERTAIN PORTIONS OF MT. VERNON AVENUE
DATE: OCTOBER 23, 2002
Mt. Vernon Avenue has recently been improved with the installation of the center medians on
various portions of the street from Fairway Drive to La Cadena Drive. The roadway improvements
provide 12 -foot medians, 26 -foot wide travel lanes northbound and southbound. Engineering
Department is proposing two 11 -foot lanes, which leaves 4 -foot of roadway in each direction. This
is not adequate for parking, since minimum width required is 8 -feet.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
The State of California Vehicle Code allows parking restrictions if adopted by ordinance or
resolution. Section 23 of the City of Colton Resolution # 2119 lists areas of the City of Colton with
parking restrictions, the attached resolution amends Resolution # 2119 to include both sides of Mt.
Vernon Avenue, from Fairway Drive to La Cadena Drive.
Since there will be a 4 -feet wide portion of roadway remaining in each direction, Engineering
Department is proposing that a 4 -feet bike lane be provided from Fairway Drive to La Cadena
Drive.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Estimate that this action will require the installation of approximately 102 signs. With the approval
of this Resolution, the amount will be $ 4,207.17. Funds to cover the Resolution are in Account #
882-9250-9252-3890.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The proposed public improvements are exempt under section 15301 (Existing Facilities) of the
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
