CITY OF COLTON Item #8 AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF November 5, 2002 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services SUBJECT: Use of Fleming Park and the Closure of City Streets for the Colton Chamber of Commerce's Annual Christmas Parade and Street Faire DATE: October 30, 2002 BACKGROUND: The Colton Chamber of Commerce has requested the closure of a portion of La Cadena. Drive for their Annual Christmas Parade. Use of Fleming Park would follow the parade. They also requested to hold, for the first time, a Street Faire. All of the events would be held on Saturday, December 14, 2002. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The Chamber has requested the closure of La Cadena Drive from "O" Street to "D" Street from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Estimated attendance along the parade route is placed at several thousand people. Following the parade, the Chamber would like to use Fleming Park and hold a Street Faire adjacent to the park along "F" Street between 7`h Street and La Cadena Drive. The hours would be 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with clean-up concluding at approximately 3:00 p.m. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Police and Public Services Department's would provide normal services relative to a community parade. The Parks Division, of the Parks, Recreation and Family Services Department, would provide park maintenance during the event. The Chamber has requested the use of a City electrician from the City's Electric Utility for initial street faire booth electrical needs and to troubleshooting as needed during the event. Police, Public Services and Parks, Recreation and Family Services can provide their services at no charge. ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: None Staff recommends approval of the request by the Colton Chamber of Commerce to hold their Annual Christmas Parade including closure of La Cadena Drive between "O" and "D" Streets. Staff also recommends approval of the Chamber's use of Fleming Park and the closure of "F" Street between "7" Street and La Cadena. Drive for a street faire.
