CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF February 15, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor and Member of the City Council
FROM: Bill Smith, Director of Community Services
PREPARED: Mary Alice Romo, Administrative Assistant
SUBJECT: Approve and Accept Target Grant for City Early Childhood
Education
DATE: February 1, 2005
Item #7
BACKGROUND:
The Target Grants Program is designed to give back to the local community, but their
support also reaches beyond local interests. Target's grants currently focus on three
areas: Early Childhood Reading, Arts, and Family Violence Prevention. The Early
Childhood Education Division applied for one such grant in the amount of $2,000 so that
new reading materials could be purchased for program children to enhance their reading
skills.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The fiscal year 2004-05 Target Grant will provide funds for developmentally appropriate
materials for Childhood Reading.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no general fund impact. The funds should be placed into revenue account 206-
5889, and the appropriation in expenditure account 206-7200-7202-2301 should be
likewise increased by the grant amount of $2,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the acceptance of the FY 2004-05 Target
Grant.
Attachment: Resolution
City Attorney:,
City Manager:
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
Finance Director:
OTHER:
