CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT ITEM #10 <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 1, 2005 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Jeannette Olko, Electric Utility General Manager' <br />SUBJECT: Award of Bid For Non -Ceramic Line Post and Suspension <br />Insulators for the Electric Utility to Lapp Insulators, LLC, C/O <br />McAvoy & Markham, in the Amount of $38,975.87 <br />DATE: <br />September 26, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Electric Utility currently has numerous ceramic insulators in use on its transmission lines. <br />Because of the age of these insulators, the utility has recently experienced an increase in line loss <br />and pole fires. In an effort to minimize these problems, and to improve efficiency, the utility intends <br />to replace these older, ceramic type insulators with non -ceramic, polymer type insulators. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Electric Utility Department posted a Notice Inviting Informal Bids on September 8, 2005. Bid <br />packages were mailed to six -qualified vendors. Bid opening was held at 2:30 PM, September 26, <br />2005, at the Electric Department offices. Four bids were received and evaluated. One, vendor, One <br />Source Distributors, provided two bids from different manufacturers. A Bid Analysis is attached <br />showing the prices, manufacturer, and delivery times quoted by each vendor.
