Mr. Jerry Young, Assistant Director of Finance, stated he is not certain what infor-
mation the City Council is seeking with regard to the bids and bid awards for various
equipment for the Public Works Department, however, Staff's recommendations are as
follows:
Mr. Young advised that these recommendations would coincide with the maturing of in-
vestments as advised by the City Treasurer and although previous delays resulted in
Q higher bids for some items, approval of the awards at this time would still be within
the budget constraints approved by the City Council by $1,240.
Councilwoman Cisneros said she did not understand why the meeting was called for in
the first place, and possibly the Council Members that had questions could bring
them up at this time.
Councilman Hayes stated that he, for one, had questioned certain items. Mr. Hayes
. said he believes very strongly in the bid system, Staff knows what is needed, and
he wants to make sure that the City is getting the product that is being set out
for.
Mr. Bill Gray, representing Whitney Tractor, spoke about the specs for the motor
grader, stating he felt that their piece of machinery is not only extremely com-
petitive and equals or exceeds the other machine, it also costs less money. Mr.
Gray said he feels the deviations are minor and will not alter the performance of
the equipment.
Mayor Gonzales asked if all bids were considered.
General Services Supervisor Ken Peterson responded yes, all bids were considered.
motor grader, stating he was familiar with the caterpiller, it is a good machine
and it meets the City's specifications.
specs for the equipment, and he felt that the machinery should meet the specs
as advertised by the City, this is very important, and is of benefit to the
City in the long run.
