CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting November 17, 1992
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: JOHN C. HUTTON, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORK , Date: 11/9/92
SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT TO PAUL GARDNER CORPORATION FOR
INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS AT COLTON AVENUE AND
FAIRVIEW AVENUE
BACKGROUND:
The intersection of Fairview and Colton Avenue is a tee
configuration intersection and serves as the primary access to
Alice Birney Elementary School.
At the request of the school principal and area residents, the City
Council directed staff to prepare a traffic impact analysis to
determine if the intersection of Fairview and Colton Avenue meet
the criteria to warrant a Traffic Signal at this intersection.
CONCLUSION:
Utilizing the criteria established by the State of California
Transportation department staff determined that the intersection
did meet at least two of the five warrants used to determine the
need for a signalized intersection.
Based upon this information council directed staff to proceed with
the design and bidding out of the project for the construction of
a signalized intersection, two bids were received and are attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This project was approved as part of the Cities Traffic fee fund
capital improvement program listed as project #5 with a estimated
budget of $85,000.00
