CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of February 15, 1994 <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Date: February 9,1994 <br />From: Jerry Young, City Manager 441A� <br />Subject Consider Resolution Regarding Weed Abatement Program as Administered by the Colton <br />Fire Department <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At its January 18 1994, meeting, the City Council approved the request for staff to develop an in-house <br />weed abatement program to be administered by the City of Colton Fire Department <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The attached Resolution declares that weeds, rubbish, refuse and dirt upon the parkways, sidewalks and <br />private property in the City of Colton, constitute a public nuisance and are subject to abatement. The <br />Resolution gives the Fire Chief the authority to give notice to property owners which own property where <br />weeds or rubbish constitute apublic nuisance and which must be abated. Additionally, the Resolution <br />authorizes the Fire Chief to approve a contractor to perform the abatement, to charge an administrative fee <br />and to place all contractor's fees plus the administrative fee on the San Bernardino County Tax Roles for <br />collection. <br />The Resolution sets a Public Hearing for the objections to such proposed removal of weeds, rubbish, refuse <br />and dirt and the charges therefore, to be heard by the CityCouncil at its meeting of April ,5, 1994.. <br />Fiscal Impact <br />As stated in the Agenda Report of January 18, 1994, the estimated cost for contract work for one year is <br />$50,000. Additional costs are estimated to be $3,560, and include a personal computer to track the <br />notification and parcel listing process, postage and other incidental costs.
