R-12-09 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON, <br />AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF FIVE APPLICATIONS FOR THE <br />SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM, 8TH CYCLE. <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of California enacted AB 57 in <br />December 2006, to extend the State Safe Routes to School program until January 2013 <br />which is intended to provide grant funding for projects that enhance the safety for <br />pedestrians and bicyclists near schools, encourage increased walking and bicycling <br />among students, and reduce injuries and fatalities to school children; and <br />WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation solicits Safe Routes <br />to School Grant Program projects from local governmental agencies on an annual basis; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is dedicated to improving <br />the street infrastructure; <br />BE IT NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS that the City <br />Council of the City of Colton hereby; <br />1. Approves the filing of five applications for the Safe Routes to School <br />Program for grant assistance. <br />2. Appoints Daryl Parrish, City Manager, as agent of the City of Colton to conduct <br />all negotiations, execute and submit all documents, including, but not limited to applications, <br />agreements, amendments, payment requests and so on, which may be necessary for the <br />completion of the aforementioned projects. <br />PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 17th DAY OF FEBRUARY <br />2009. <br />KELLY ASTAIN, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />EILEEN C.
